Mickey Yates

December 22, 1950 - November 28, 2016

Michael David Yates passed away, surrounded by his family, on November 28, 2016, at his home in Broken Arrow, OK after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. He was born December 22, 1950 in Shawnee, OK and he eventually moved to Norman, OK where he graduated from Norman High School in 1969. In high school, Mike met the love of his life, Carol Donahue, and they married in 1973. Mike attended the University of Oklahoma where he achieved a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. An accomplished salesman, he spent the majority of his career at J.D. Fields & Co., eventually retiring as Vice President in June 2012. Following retirement, Mike and Carol traveled to their favorite destinations together and enjoyed quality time with their three daughters and four grandkids. Mike was known for his viking spirit, love of the outdoors and his playful sense of humor. He enjoyed spending time at the family's condo on Lake Eufaula as well as their Keystone, CO condo where many family memories are shared hiking the mountains together. A devoted Sooners fan, he also spent many weekends cheering on his alma mater's football team with family and friends. Above all, Mike will always be remembered as a loving husband, dad and Pap Paw. Mike is preceded in death by his father, Orval, and his mother, June (McKee) Yates, and leaves cherished memories with his wife of 43 years, Carol Yates of Broken Arrow; daughters: Tiffany Eilerts and her husband, Jeff of Arcadia, OK; Kelly Yates of Tulsa, OK; Kristi Cadenhead and her husband, Dan of Plano, TX; four grandchildren: Ashlyn and Tatum Eilerts, Hudson and Landon Cadenhead; nephews: Ted Yates and his wife, Susan of Wayne, OK, Todd Yates and his wife, Kate of Norman, OK; his best friend, Jack Preston Fite of Oklahoma City, OK and brothers: Skeetz Yates of Jones, OK; Tom Yates of Meadowview, VA.
